What to Expect at Tegalalang Rice Terrace
Tegalalang forms the three most splendid terraced landscapes in Ubud’s shared region, with the others being in the villages of Pejeng and Campuhan.
The Tegalalang rice terrace alone offers a scenic outlook that spreads down before you and away to the rice paddies on the slopes across the valley.
The high roadside location is cool and breezy and it is a well-known spot for tourists to stop and take photos.
Once you are at Tegalalang Rice Terrace, you can enjoy the view from on top but it’s also possible to hike down and walk up on the other side again. We definitely would recommend hiking down. You will need anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5-hours to explore every corner of the area. Make sure to take water and sunscreen!
When in the rice paddies you can see the water running in narrow channels between the terraces and down through the raw earth. As a result the ground is rather soft and muddy, and you don’t realise how narrow the walkways are between the terraces so be careful not to slip and land in one of the paddies! Once in the rice terrace, expect to get sweaty! You’ll be climbing up and down the terrace along narrow, grassy paths, and may get muddy.

How to Get to Tegalalang Rice Terrace
To get to Tegallalang rice terrace you will require either a motorbike or driver to take you. The area are found about half an hour north of Ubud town centre. From the Ubud town centre, take Jalan Raya as far east as you can go, and then turn north. After about 9KM, you’ll reach Tegalalang and see the terraces on your right. There is a big parking area close to the rice paddies where you can drop your vehicle.
Tegalalang Rice Terrace Entrance Fee
Visit to Tegalalang rice terrace are subject to an entrance fee of 15,000 IDR per person, and 5,000 IDR for parking.
The ticket can be bought at the ticket counter which located in the main street just before the rice terraces viewpoint.
And the payment should be cash in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), so please prepare small cash before you come here.
Tegalalang Rice Terrace Opening Hours
The Tegalalang rice terrace are able to visit at anytime, however officially open from 7am to 6pm, but it’s pretty easy to sneak over the fence before then.
As you can imagine the weather in Bali is very hot and humid, and this is one of the main tourist attractions on the island.
We would definitely recommend you visit in the early morning or late afternoon and, if you’re into photography, those dawn and dusk golden hour times are your best friend. This will help you avoid the heat and the sun.
Best Time To Visit Tegalalang Rice Terrace
To see the rice terrace at their greenest visit in March, April, September or October as this is when the rice is about to be harvested.
Between April and September the fields have more of a yellow tint, but are by no means less beautiful.
The rainiest time of year in Bali is between December and February. During these months, the terraces are lovely and green, but it’s not an ideal time to visit, as you may have to spend your day outside in the pouring rain!
Getting to Tegalalang at sunrise means you can witness the light rays break through the trees in this tranquil setting. Sunrise is also the best time to visit if you want to avoid the crowds.
If you’re not much of an early bird but still want to visit at a quieter time, then visit before 10am or after 4pm.
Visiting at this time should mean you avoid some of the tourist crowds as well as the intense midday sun.

Tegalalang is one of the most visited area of Bali and is located in the north of Ubud. The route leading to this place is stunningly impressive with the green alluring rice fields, rivers and cute unique restaurant call Terrace Padi.
Terrace Padi Restaurant is a small restaurant overlooking the rice terraces. It is also next to the place that is so famous on Instagram for the ‘Love Bali’ sign.
They serve traditional Balinese and Indonesian food. They are renowned for their chicken curry dish. We ordered mee goreng, prawn curry and chicken curry. The food was really good and presentation was lovely too.
The prices are almost the same as the other restaurants in Bali. They also have some international dish options.
Moreover you can also drop by just for a drink, chill and enjoy the uncanny and tranquil scenery, like a slow-paced life.
